Creating videos and using them in your marketing is one of the best ways to increase your brand’s visibility and drive traffic back to your website, blog or online store.

Since a lot of my viewers have been asking me how I make my videos, I decided to go behind the scenes and show you the exact tools and software I use.

On top of that, I’ll also show you how I edit my videos at the bottom of this post and share some interesting facts about why you should be using video in your marketing.

Why You Should Be Using Video in Your Marketing

Aside from the fact that videos are very popular, there are several good reasons why you should use video in your marketing.

1. Boost Your SEO

The most important reason why you should use video in your marketing is because it boosts your SEO. Videos are recognized as rich media content by the search engines and receive a better rank signal than regular articles and posts. On top of that, Youtube, the largest video sharing platform, is also the second largest search engine which means more people have a chance to see your content.

2. Easier to Consume on Mobile Devices

Video content is easier to consume on mobile devices. Smaller screen size can often make reading your favorite websites harder but video content allows you to not only watch but also listen.

This makes it easier to catch up on the news and the latest happenings as you’re commuting to work or on your lunch break.

3. Establish Personal Connection

Since video engages all of our senses and your viewers can see you and hear you, they are more likely to connect with you faster than through blog posts and articles. A video allows you to grab your visitors’ attention and make them feel like they’re sitting in the room with you as opposed to simply reading the words on the screen.

4. Better Conversion Rates

Another reason why you should be using video is that video content results in better conversion rates and better ROI. Whether you use video in your blog posts, on your sales pages or on your product pages, you are bound to see more sales than without it.

Statistics say that video on a landing page can increase conversions by 80% or more. What’s more, according to research by tubular insights, 64% of consumers make a purchase after watching branded social videos so now is the best time to get on the video marketing train.

Equipment and Software I Use to Make My Youtube Videos

Now that we’ve covered the benefits of using video in your marketing, here are all the equipment and software I use to film and edit my Youtube videos.

iMac

I use an iMac to not only record my Youtube videos but for all other tasks that are related to my channel and my website.

Logitech Brio Webcam

Next, you need a high-quality webcam to create Youtube videos. One of the best webcams is the Logitech Brio webcam. Unlike other Logitech models, this one allows you to record 60 frames per second which means you will get a better quality recording than with webcams that record only 30fps.

This webcam can also record in 4k, but keep in mind that any video recorded in 4k result in a much larger file without any noticeable difference in quality.

Blue Yeti Microphone

While there are many choices and options when it comes to microphones, I prefer using the Blue Yeti microphone. It’s one of the best microphones out there and it comes with plenty of controls that allow you to fine-tune the quality of your audio recording. It also has more than 6,000 positive reviews on Amazon.

Lighting Kit

Aside from making sure your video and audio are of high quality, you also need a quality lighting kit. The one from Limo Studio comes with 2 umbrella reflectors and 3 separate lights. Those lights and umbrellas are usually placed towards the sides of my desk for better indoor lighting.

Green Screen

The green screen allows me to remove the background from the webcam recording. I use a foldable green screen kit because it’s easier to store and it doesn’t wrinkle, unlike larger green screen kits.

Screenflow

To record my videos, I use Screenflow. Keep in mind that Screenflow is a Mac-only program but if you prefer using windows, you can use Camtasia and you’ll be able to achieve the same results.

Screenflow allows me to record both my screen and my webcam at the same time.

Once I record the video, I export both recordings as separate files and then edit them.

Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is what I use for editing all my videos. Like Screenflow, Final Cut Pro is a Mac-only program, however, you can use Adobe Premiere if you’re on a Windows computer.

Final Cut Pro makes it easy to edit videos and it comes with the ability to easily remove the green screen background so you don’t see it or any of my background in the videos.

Audio and Music

Lastly, if you need audio effects, transitions or music for your videos, I recommend checking out Envato Market. You can find quality audio files such as titles, animated intros, and background music that can be used with Final Cut Pro.

Video Recording Tips

When it comes to recording videos, there are four key tips to keep in mind.

1. Make sure your lighting is good

The most important tip is to make sure your lighting is good. Even if you record during the day, natural light won’t be enough. Without a good lighting kit, your videos will be dark which will turn viewers away and that is the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve.

2. Remove all distractions

While you’re recording your videos, be sure to silence your phone’s notifications as well as your email or chat notifications. These can often pop up during a key part of your video and are not always easy to edit which means you’ll have to record the entire video from scratch.

3. Outline your script

Having a script prepared before you record a video can help you stay on point instead of rambling on and jumping from one thought to the next. It helps you follow the topic in a logical manner and it also helps you avoid mistakes that you have to go back and correct by re-recording parts of the video.

4. Use high-quality webcam and microphone

Lighting is important but your webcam and microphone matter too. Without proper equipment or by using a built-in camera and microphone on your laptop, you won’t be able to get a good quality recording. As a result, your video may be blurry or choppy and your audio might not be as clear, making it hard for everyone to understand what you’re saying.
